Welcome to my blog. I'm unsure how this will proceed exactly, but it will be an attempt to closely document the process of AI cannibalization on our society, as this unprecedented technology eats its way through our institutions, social protections and consciousness.
Background
To begin with, I'd like to focus on my own personal experience of generative AI, from my perspective as a technology professional in a large corporate organization. I'm confident that this standpoint is instructive. I see some of the "bleeding edge" impacts of AI. Not because my workplace is particularly adept at deploying it, quite the opposite. The impact of AI on corporate organisations has an immediacy and gravitational pull that I find notable. It promises untold success and riches, because there are no limitations on what its evangelicals claim ot will offer. For power hungry executives it is irresistible, offering untold promise and otherworldly career success. The results are far from promising so far. I'm interested in how AI will eat through existing institutional arrangements at a pace that is new in comparison to previous technologies. It is already having a deeply corrosive and questionable impact on the daily lives of private citizens in entertainment in particular. But my focus will be on the workplace.
